In the ancient Hawaiian culture, the healing stone of Wai’ihiawa district was Keanianileihuaokalani. This mystical stone, which is also known as Kea’ani, lies in repose since the absence of its queen, the Ali’i. The Ali’i were the ancient royalty, who traveled from faraway to give birth in the district. This stone was believed to be the center of the earth, and it is said that it can bring you good health.
The Healing Stone is located close to the Wahiawa Freshwater State Park and Wahiawa United Methodist Church. During Hawaiian rites, it is common to see people touching the stone. Some claim that it can cure ailments, including rheumatism. However, the Board of Health has refused to ban people from touching the rock. Despite the controversy surrounding the Healing Stone, it continues to be a popular place to pay homage to the island’s ancient chiefs.
A local Hindu group has held worship over the stone for more than 20 years. The stone is believed to have healing powers and is considered a manifestation of the god Shiva. But in recent years, the stone has been contested by Hawaiian nationalists, who want to return it to its rightful place. The Stone is a valuable cultural asset and should be cared for appropriately. It is important to water the stone regularly to maintain its healing properties.
The Daughters of Hawaii, meanwhile, took responsibility for maintaining the stone, and in 1930, relocated it to its present location on California Avenue. Hundreds of people visited the stone in the 1920s and 1930s, leaving offerings and rubbing wax on it. In 1988, LOTUS took care of the site and built a marble shrine using donations from the Sawney family.
