Many pet parents are turning to alternative medicine to help their furry friends live happier, healthier lives. One popular trend is to use healing crystals, a natural treatment that proponents claim can aid everything from anxiety and skin issues to cancer. Some people affix crystal pendants to collars, zip them into bedding or simply massage their pets with stones to impart the energy.
Crystals are natural, readily available and generally affordable, making them an accessible tool for pet owners to experiment with, say experts. But the question is, do they work? While it’s important to note that crystal healing is not meant to replace traditional veterinary care, some experts believe it may have some benefit.
“As a practitioner, I know that crystals have the power to bring positive change and healing into the physical body,” says animal communication expert and healer Sue Pike, The Animal Talker. She says she uses crystals to help pets with behavioral issues, such as stress and fear. She also recommends them to clients who are concerned about their pets’ health, especially those suffering from conditions like cancer and arthritis.
Pike is one of many pet professionals who are trained to work with crystals and other natural substances to bring healing and comfort to their pets. To do so, they must understand the energy field of each animal and how vibrational frequencies affect cellular resonance. Each crystal, gemstone and mineral possesses specific energies that resonate with particular qualities and traits of animals. These energies then mix with the animal’s own electromagnetic fields and help to heal and restore balance.
For example, hematite is known for balancing the immune system and healing inflammation. It’s used in the treatment of arthritis, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, as well as to promote blood flow, reduce pain, ease arthritic joints and relax the muscles. It can also be used to ease fear and anxiety, as it is a powerful grounding stone that increases resilience and courage.
Other crystals, such as quartz, citrine, rose quartz and amethyst, are said to strengthen the heart and improve cardiovascular function and circulation. Amethyst is also a powerful cleanser and purifier that helps balance and strengthen the lungs, bolstering respiratory wellness. And smoky quartz is thought to promote emotional stability, ease fear and tension, and calm the mind.
It’s important to clear and recharge crystals regularly. That means getting rid of negative energies that can build up, placing them in the sun, leaving them outdoors for a day or two in snowstorms or thunderstorms, or simply clearing and charging them with your intention to send healing love and a strong life force. Sara Brown, founder of Crystal Heart Connections and creator of clip-on crystals that she sends to pet parents for their dogs, charges her crystals with her concentrated intent daily by sending healing thoughts to the animals wearing them.
For those who want to try crystals on their pets, the easiest way is to wait until your animal is quiet and relaxed, perhaps sleeping or snoozing in his bed. Then place up to three crystals near the dog, touching or (if he allows) resting upon them. Program the crystals for his or her specific needs and healing.
